[Under Construction]

We were approached by Mark Gould the teacher in charge of the Greenpower project at Furze Platt Senior school in 2003 after the pupils had propelled themselves into the October final with their first car the ‘Sprocket Rocket’. They asked us if we could assist them getting some more speed out of the ‘Sprocket Rocket’ and provide a means of charging  the batteries as well as we had experience in breaking World records with Human Powered Vehicles in our sister company Kingcycle.  www.kingcycle.co.uk

We modified one of our Turbo trainers by fitting a car  alternator kindly donated by Norths Garage of Lane End and suggested some streamlining ideas to get more speed out of the car.  The car went well coming 22nd out of 65 and the use of human powered battery charging won the Greenest car prize.

We were by now rather hooked on the project and when asked if we could assist with a new faster car for 2004 we gladly agreed.

We discussed the merits of aerodynamic body over the draw back of the extra weight it would entail and after  looking at ideas from Miles Kingsbury’s record breaking bikes the team came up with a design for the new car. This was then drawn up on the CAD system.

The pupils were shown the design (see left), and they approved it, and so began the road that would lead eventually to the Goodwood lap record breaking ‘Turbo Tortoise’.
