Miles Kingsbury had blown a bubble many years (21) ago for one of his human powered vehicles, so he had forgotten most of the experience gained on that project. However using knowledge from connections made at the BHPV (British Human Powered Vehicle) club a suitable plastic was found. (Spectar sheet made by Barlow plastics).
Notice the symbol of the BHPC is an aerofoil similar to the plan view of the ‘Turbo Tortoise’ We already had a simple fan oven for making heat curable glass fibre bike bodies. For the Mango that did 70 MPH in Nevada. The Tortoise was deliberately made out of simple plywood so that complex plugs moulds etc were not required as we had lots of experience with the dust and mess. The oven is made from building insulation foam backed with foil. The heaters and thermostat were from an domestic electric cooker. It has home made triple glassed windows and lights so you can see what is going on inside. It is all held together with straps so it can be taken apart and stored if required. It is fairly low tech but you need a bit of space to build it.
