On Camera Prompters

Interrotron

An Interrotron also know as a eye direct allows a nervous interviewee some comfort by allowing them to see the interviewer’s face instead of the camera lens whilst they give their answers direct to the camera. Our interrotrons are based on our prompting on camera head-ups.

We offer 2 solutions:

1: Passive interrotron which uses reflections by way of a customised prompting hood and reflector.

2: Active electric powered interrotron which takes a video feed from a second camera feeding our prompter display.  The Electric or Active Interrotron uses our normal prompter heads but rather than displaying large prompting text from a pc, a signal from a camera is used instead.

Both solutions can be rented or bought from us.

Here is a short video explaining how both types of Interrotron work

Passive Interrotron

Here is a short animation showing the seating positions with a passive Interrotron.

The colour of the text refers to the colour of the head of the CAD image on the right.

Passive Interrotron Enables Interviewer and Interviewee to maintain eye contact helping the confidence of the Interviewee.

No cabling, saving time.
Only one camera needed.
The Interviewee looks straight into the lens of the camera whilst looking at the image of the Interviewer.
We recommend a simple screen (not shown) between the 2 people to break the direct eye-line to make sure the Interviewee keeps looking at the camera.

Electric or Active Interrotron

Using our prompt screen in this way enables the Interviewer and subject to maintain eye contact helping the confidence of the subject.
The interviewee looks straight into the lens of the camera whilst looking at the image of the Interviewer.

It requires 2 cameras. One to capture the image of the interviewee (Red) for transmission and the other to capture the interviewer’s  (Yellow) image. The second camera does not usually get transmitted so can be a simpler device.

The locations can be in the same room or further apart: even different rooms or cities.

We recommend a simple screen (not shown) between the 2 people (if in the same room) to break the direct eye-line to make sure the Interviewee keeps looking at the camera.

The images below show the 2 types of electric (active) interrotron, the Full type is best for larger distances between the interviewer and interviewee, the simpler Half type is better for smaller distances such as in the same room.

Please note our standard prompting displays take ONLY analogue composite video and VGA signals. They do not work with SDI signals. If you are using a camera that produces only SDI you need to source an SDI to analogue converter.
